About the Candidate

Aloha,

My name is Kelton Chang and I am running for the County Council seat in District 3. But before I continue, let me share a bit about my background and what led me to this decision.

I was born and raised in the Keaau area of Puna, specifically in the slow-paced lifestyle of Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision during the 70s and 80s. It was a time when everyone knew each other and what was going on in our community. I currently live in the Waiakea Uka area with my wife and two daughters.

My parents played a big role in shaping who I am today. My father, Raymond, worked as a meat cutter at the former Miko Meat Factory Slaughter house in Keaau before becoming a union business man for United Food & Commercial Workers local 594. My mother, Anita, was a realtor on the Big Island until her retirement in 1995.

As a single parent, my mother faced many challenges and struggles, but she taught me that life is what you make of it. I graduated from Waiakea High School in 1992 and continued my education through the Alu Like program at Hawaii Community College, majoring in Autobody and Painting. I graduated in 1994 and have been working at Ace Auto Glass Inc ever since. I am currently the Branch Manager and will be celebrating my 30th year with the company this July!

In addition to my career, I have also been actively involved in community activities and organizations over the years. This has given me the opportunity to interact with local government and build strong relationships with various administrations and private businesses. Through these experiences, I have gained a better understanding of the challenges our residents face every day.

As someone who has witnessed first-hand how high living costs can force families out of Hawaii, I am committed to fighting for our communities’ needs and well-being. I believe that my knowledge and understanding of these issues can help bring about positive change for our residents and local businesses in our communities.

Mahalo!
